This online workshop brought together film students from Wits University and China University of Communication and demonstrated the potential of social media in visual image-making. Despite facing challenges like language barriers and a virtual "cyber-wall," the workshop successfully bridged three different time zones and leveraged popular social media platforms such as Snapchat and TikTok.The workshop showcased how visual content could be produced by engaging with and sharing responses across multiple networks and platforms. This approach proved the immense potential of social media in generating not only content but entire industries. The workshop's matrix-like dissemination of content created online communities or "followings" that kept the production in constant circulation, producing a rich and diverse range of visual content. the microfilms show how social media can be leveraged to create meaningful engagement and opportunities for young creatives from different corners of the world. The workshop serves as a powerful example of the potential of digital humanities in the field of visual image-making. The use of social media platforms has the potential to change the traditional methods of visual image-making, by breaking down geographical and language barriers and creating global online communities workshop demonstrates the importance of leveraging the power of digital tools to bring together communities, create impactful content, and foster meaningful engagement.
